I am a certified high school math teacher. I have a total of 7 years of teaching high school math and tutoring college math. I understand how struggling math students think. I was a mediocre math student in high school and math was not really my thing. However, in college I had a wonderful math tutor who worked diligently with me so that I really grasped college Algebra and I ended up acing the subject which had always alluded me in high school. It was amazing how much more enjoyable math was once I understood it and looked forward to using it. Instead of an annoying road block, it became an intriguing Class. Education can be given in such a way that virtually everyone can grasp and excel in school, including advanced concepts in mathematics. A weakness of our education system is that often students, whose learning style does not fit the education mold, are forced to fit as a square peg through a round hole. This rigidness and lack of flexibility often creates learners who have apathy or resentment towards math that is unnecessary. In my own practice of teaching and tutoring I have found that often students who were judged to not be able to do complex math could do it with the right tools and guidance. Students who were decent students were also able to perform at a better level as well with improved guidance. The biggest problem in student's understanding they often struggle or are weak in the foundational skills of math for that subject or the math subjects leading up to the current class, and are therefore trying to learn a new concept while simultaneously trying relearn old concepts that were not understood in the first place. Math, more than any other subject, builds on itself. Students have to have a solid foundation or go back and reinforce weak areas in order to master further concepts. Mastery learning in math is paramount. We have to crawl before we walk and walk before we run.

My name is Ms. W. I graduated from the University of Richmond with a major in Elementary Education. I recently received my credentials as a Reading Specialist. I love teaching and learning in all subjects. However, teaching reading is my passion. If you can read and comprehend it opens endless possibilities for other interests. I have been teaching high school mathematics for the past ten years. I am a graduate of Rust College and Grand Canyon University. While at Rust College, I received my Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and while at Grand Canyon University, I received my Master degree in Secondary Education. I am currently enrolled in Arkansas State University to obtain my Ed.S. in Leadership. I have been a math teacher and tutor for the past ten years. I strongly believe that every student is exceptional and has something particular to offer to their own education. I received a double major in Mathematics and Mathematics Education from Arkansas State University. I currently teach Math 1 , but have had experience in Math 2 , Math 3 and Pre Calculus . I have also substituted in various classes including Geometry , Algebra 2 , Statistics and Calculus. In my style of teaching I am open to various deliveries including direct instruction or activities and games that may help the student. The most important thing is for the student to hopefully understand and learn the topic and whatever way is best for them I am willing to do.

I have my bachelor of science degree in Animal Science with an emphasis in Pre-Veterinary Medicine at Arkansas State University. This degree allows me to help in most science classes such as chemistry, biology, and cell biology. Since my degree is under the Agriculture and Science department, I can also tutor in Agricultural Sciences. In this field, I have led study groups and volunteered students in General Chemistry 1 and 2, Cell Biology, and Microbiology. In my undergraduate, I was employed as a writing center tutor. In this position, I helped hundreds of students with writing essays, formatting, organizing ideas, reviewing rough drafts, and creating resumes/cover letters. I have previously given lectures to students about APA 7th edition, but also know MLA 9th edition as well. My favorite part about helping students is the moment when a student finally understands a concept and is then motivated to learn more. Some other hobbies outside of academia are watching TV shows (especially anime) and reading fiction novels.
