I am a graduate of the University of Texas at Dallas who is passionate about helping students. I am currently on my gap year before starting medical school this summer and am taking this time to tutor and teach! I have several years of tutoring experience working with K-12 students and adult learners.

I'm Toni, a college English professor looking to help you better engage with your learning interests! As a professor, my teaching style emphasizes active learning as a central component, aiming to make my classes more centered on students discovering the material and constructing their own knowledge. In teaching and tutoring, I see myself more as a facilitator of learning who provides students the necessary tools and direction for them to uncover the concepts themselves. Soon we will engage in this process of discovery together!

I am currently a student at Rice University studying both History and Neuroscience. Being the oldest of five kids, working with younger students has always been a part of my life. I can tutor a wide variety of subjects, but I specialize in writing, public speaking, and test taking. My goal for every tutoring session is to give students large-scale takeaways that they can apply in their academic future, maximizing the efficiency of every session.

I am a second year medical student in the new MD program at Nova Southeastern University. I began tutoring students on a volunteer basis when I was in high school and was employed by a tutoring agency while in college. I have experience working with students in Math, Sciences (Biology & Chemistry), and Spanish and have experience tutoring students in Elementary, Middle, and High School as well as college. I also have experience with SAT and ACT prep as I obtained high scores on those standardized tests as well as the MCAT (medical school admissions exams).

My name is Katherine Hancock, and I am passionate about helping students excel in mathematics, particularly in subjects like Algebra, Geometry, and SAT Math. I graduated with a Bachelor's in Engineering from Northwestern University, where I honed my analytical skills and developed a deep understanding of mathematical concepts. With over 5 years of tutoring experience, I have successfully guided middle and high school students through challenging material, adapting my teaching methods to meet their individual needs. I believe in breaking down complex problems into manageable parts, which not only enhances comprehension but also builds confidence. Witnessing my students grow academically and personally is incredibly rewarding, and I strive to create a supportive environment where every learner feels empowered to succeed. Outside of tutoring, I enjoy exploring new technologies and applying my engineering background to real-world problems, which further enriches my teaching approach.

I am a recent Purdue University graduate in Computer Engineering. As a teaching assistant for multiple courses including C Programming, Freshman Engineering, Digital Systems Design, and iOS programming, I had the opportunity to meet many great students and assist them in completing their courses successfully and meaningfully. I hope to continue doing that here with Varsity Tutors. I am also strong in high school-level STEM classes, such as chemistry, physics, biology, and math.

I am a student at the University of Pennsylvania studying Economics and German. After graduating this coming May, I will be working in the consulting industry. Along with Economics and German, I have a strong background in a math, several AP subjects, and ACT test prep. I look forward to working with you!

I hold a B.A. from Yale University and an M.A. from the University of Connecticut. In addition to teaching at both the high school and college levels, I also spent many years working in advertising (where I was a Vice President at two New York City agencies), health insurance administration, and as a newspaper editor. I have published a novel, have my own blog, and over 125 personal commentaries in both newspapers and on education websites.

I am comfortable tutoring a variety of subjects, I am most passionate about writing and language, and I truly believe that strong writing skills are an asset in every area of life. Through my experience as an after-school program manager, I learned to build relationships and work well with students, parents, and teachers to meet student goals. I am fortunate; I get to do the best job in the world. While teaching is my second career, it was always what I wanted to do. When I graduated from college, I was offered a position with my college's admissions and marketing office, where I had been working to put myself through school. It was a tremendous opportunity, and launched an eighteen-year career helping high school students make important decisions about their futures, and navigate an often complex admissions and financial aid system. I loved working with students, being around bright, engaging people, and doing work that made a difference. But each time I walked through a high school to present a workshop on writing college essays or preparing for college interviews, I was reminded of how deeply I still wanted to be in a classroom. So I took the plunge, and now spend my days teaching social studies to great students at a great school. I have taught world history, American history, sociology, psychology, economics, and even developed a high school course in teaching for students seeking a career in education. I am passionate about understanding how the past has shaped the present, and helping students recognize their critical role in protecting and preserving democracy. In addition to teaching course curricula, I work with students on writing skills, standardized test preparation, and college essays, because all of these skills will help them reach their academic goals. As a teacher, I believe that it is critical to help students develop the ability to regulate their own learning, and implement meta-cognitive strategies that will serve them in college and beyond. When I'm not teaching, I am a mom to a high school sophomore, a long-distance mom to two college students, a gardener who grows lots of organic vegetables, and an avid reader of anything historical. I am currently pursuing a Master's degree in violin performance at the Juilliard School. I have tutored privately and through Chegg Tutoring, Varsity Tutors, PrepExpert, and iLearn World throughout high school and college, with most of my experience being in standardized test prep and English. The most fulfilling moments that I have with my students are when I see them applying previous lessons and skills to new challenges. I believe that a good teacher not only helps a student tackle specific, formulaic kinds of questions, but also imparts the skills necessary for adapting to the diverse intellectual challenges that life presents. My goal is always for my students to leave their sessions having learned something that will be useful for years to come, not just on the next test that they are preparing for. After all, education is a lifelong process!

I'm currently a senior at the University of Michigan pursuing a dual degree in Computer Science and Business. I've been tutoring for 7+ years now, and I love making an impact in my students' lives! Previously, I've taught Math (up until pre-calculus), Science, Reading, Grammar, Writing, Computer Science (Java, C++, Python, Scratch, etc), and many more. I truly believe that working individually with students will not only help my students learn but also help me in growing as I learn from those around me.

I am a senior at Columbia University in New York City, studying Chemical Engineering. I am originally from Pittsburgh, PA, and have served as a tutor in the past for public school students in New York through the Columbia Tutoring and Learning Center, as well as the EduMate NYC program.
