About Me

I am a graduate of New York University where I received my Master's of Arts in Early Childhood and Elementary Education. Since graduation, I have taught young children, worked in admissions, volunteered teaching time in math and English to high school students, and raised a family. I am certified to help people of all ages with their organization demands: can you organize your work day more effectively, how can my child balance all her activities and achieve in school? I tutor a broad range of subjects but I most enjoy math and writing. In both math and writing there's room for discussion. Unlike the classroom approach, in tutoring we get to take the time to discuss "how and why." How did you get that answer? "How" leads us to thinking and discussing strategies and a general openness to learning. "Why" helps us think more critically about our decisions. Sometimes that makes a learner make a new decision on her own. These prompts are wonderful seques into important conversations where we learn about each other more. For example, they might learn about me and my cat, or my love of gardening or pizza Sundays (especially when we study fractions!). My boy students love to talk about sports with me and are always surprised to hear that I watched the same game as they did. It's amazing how much fun we can have studying together!
