About Me

I am a very laid back, patient, and thorough tutor with a BA in International Relations from American University, a Masters in Public Administration from John Jay College, as well as a degree in law. I tutored my way through undergrad, teaching English as a second language to native Spanish speakers as well as other foreign students attempting to improve their conversational English. I offer a deep understanding of foreign sentence structure and the role of culture on linguistic expression. I get great joy out of seeing the light bulb turn on in my student's eyes. I experienced this the most through my experience as a tutor for the No Child Left Behind program. A lot of the kids I dealt with were dealing with serious home issues, and it was reflecting in their ability to focus and truly comprehend. My experience with them challenged me to come up with even more innovative ways to explain the material in a way that could connect with them. They grew as students, and I grew as a tutor as a result of teaching them. Kids learn at a different paces and process information differently - I will tailor a program that both accommodates their needs and builds on their strengths.
