I am currently studying International business at Tamkang University in Taipei, Taiwan. I have studied Chinese for 1.5 years. I am able to speak on a conversational level. To be more specific, I have tested TOCFL level 3/B1. I am a TEFL certified English teacher. I have spent the past 3 years traveling the world and teaching English/tutoring basic math and science. My students range from teaching English to basic/advanced adults in Greece, private tutoring the children of a very wealthy family in Beijing, private clients in Taiwan, to clients online as well as teaching at a school in Taiwan. I truly love teaching and tutoring. I believe it is a very rewarding experience. There are times when students don't understand what they are learning, this is inevitable; but the moment that the student grasps the concept is very rewarding. At that moment I know that I am actually helping this student and they are grasping the content. This is my favorite part of teaching.

I am most passionate about teaching anything within the Arts (e.g. Literature), French language and culture, and the purer side of Mathematics, where the abstractions of numbers give us the freedom to do with them what we will. I also love helping students work their way through the daunting task of preparing for standardized tests. I have often found that my past students have gotten tangled in the problems that have been set out for them, and I have always found success in teaching the conceptual framework behind these problems, so that they learn to find solutions by whatever means they prefer. As indicated by my degrees at the beginning, I am incredibly passionate about film and film studies I am a huge movie buff. But perhaps the most important thing I can say about myself is that I don't believe that any subject is out of reach for any student. It's just about finding a way through the jargon to something that makes sense.

Organic Chemistry Tutor
During high school I found that I really enjoyed chemistry. This pushed me to pursue and obtain multiple degrees in chemistry. I obtained my Bachelor's and Master's degree from the University of Idaho. While I was an undergraduate I was lucky enough to conduct research on the synthesis of new organic molecules for use in pharmaceutical research. During my Master's degree I conducted research for two years on main group and early transition metal polymerization catalysts. The title of my Master's thesis is "Synthesis and Reactivity of Bis(pentamethylcyclopentadienyl)aluminum Complexes". I then moved to the midwest and spent time in Iowa City and Chicago during my Ph.D. studies. I was awarded a Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of Chicago and the title of my dissertation is "Understanding Structure/Reactivity Trends in Palladium(II) Polymerization Catalysts containing Heterocyclic Donor Ligands". The time I spent doing my doctoral research allowed me to pursue the love I have for the synthesis of organic molecules and also explore the reactivity of transition metal complexes that incorporate these molecules. I gained a desire to understand how chemistry works on a fundamental, mechanistic level. It is this focus on the details that allows me to look at chemical reactions and help others to understand how they work. I have been a tutor, teaching assistant for both lectures and laboratories, and a professor during my career as a chemist. I tutored students in general chemistry and organic chemistry as an undergraduate. As both a graduate student and professor I taught both organic chemistry lectures and labs and helped students in one-on-one meetings as well as review sessions. I am a tutor for middle school and high school science. I am able to tutor multiple areas of chemistry including high school and college chemistry and organic chemistry. My favorite subject is chemistry with a particular love for organic chemistry. I feel like I was born to put molecules together, especially carbon-carbon bonds, and I think of chemistry as really just molecular Legos that I am fortunate enough to spent my days working with. I love synthesizing new molecules but I am challenged intellectually on a daily basis to find and understand the applications for the chemistry I develop in the areas of industrial green chemistry and clinical chemistry. I believe the work I do has made me a patient person who has learned to explain the chemistry I pursue to a broad audience. This has shaped my teaching philosophy as I have grown more mature in my understanding of the chemical sciences. I am patient and search for multiple explanations of the subject material. I am aware that I am an expert in chemistry but if the person I am helping has not gained a better understanding of chemistry after working with me then I have not been successful. I am hands on with regards to leading by example and showing someone how I would solve a problem. I may not be able to impart the same love I have for chemistry in a particular student but if they see how much I enjoy the material I hope I will inspire them to continue to try and master the subject themselves. I am a big believer in having interests and hobbies outside of my work in chemistry. When I was growing up, I lived in many different places in the United States so I love traveling within the US as well as the world. My travels often inspire new thoughts and solutions for problems I might be encountering at work. By getting away for an issue I find that an answer can appear in my thoughts when I am distracted and not focused on the roadblocks that often appear in my work. I am often accused of "thinking about molecules" when I am supposed to be relaxing if I look distracted. Some of my best ideas have come to me when wondering around a plaza in Mexico or Spain. At home, I enjoy watching Manchester United, riding my bike, running, listening to my very eclectic music collection and gardening when the weather cooperates. I believe I am a very inquisitive person and so I am open to learning new things and going to new places for experiences that I have not had before.

I enjoy helping students by explaining concepts in ways that make sense to them, by eliciting their feedback and tailoring my approach to their individual needs, and by conveying my enthusiasm for the learning process. It's great to see the light come on and to see their progress. I have an undergraduate degree in Politics from Princeton, a post-baccalaureate certificate in Quantitative Studies for Finance from Columbia, and an MBA from London Business School. I served as an officer in the Marine Corps and have worked in a number of academic and private-sector positions. I founded and am currently running an analytics-focused consulting practice.

I'm not teaching kids the importance of thinking outside the box, I really enjoy being active and working out. In high school, I played basketball and volleyball competitively, which carried over into a lifelong love of fitness and health. Somewhat contradictorily, I also love cooking (and eating), and will be participating in a recreational Culinary Certificate course at Cincinnati State in the fall. Not to be a total cliche, but my third favorite hobby is traveling. In college, I spent nine weeks backpacking through Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, and Laos. My next trip on the books is to Austin, Texas, to experience the Austin City Limits Music and Cultural Festival. If I'm not cooking at home, eating a strange food on a foreign continent, or trying to work off the calories from both those endeavors, you can usually find me hanging out at the dog park with my border collie. Hobbies: art, books, traveling, yoga, travel, reading, cooking, music, writing

I am a graduate of the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology. I received my Bachelor of Science in Mathematics. Since graduation, I have tutored high school students in algebra, geometry, precalculus, and statistics; adults in college looking for remedial help as well as standard college level math including calculus, differential equations, and discrete math. In my experience helping struggling students prepare for standardized tests, we always seem to have the most fun (with remarkable advancements) prepping for the mathematics and quantitative reasoning sections. I am a firm proponent of education, believing it to be absolutely necessary for an improved quality of life, and I try to impart this appreciation to all of my students. In my spare time, I enjoy reading US History and STEM textbooks, playing my Nintendo Switch, and the odd game of Catan.

Yes, Varsity Tutors connects students from across London's 19 schools with personalized tutoring support. Whether your student attends a public or private school in the area, we match them with tutors who understand Kentucky's curriculum standards and can support their specific academic goals.
London students typically seek support in math, English language arts, science, and standardized test preparation—subjects that form the foundation of Kentucky's academic standards. We also work with students on ACT prep, which is especially important for Kentucky high schoolers planning for college.
With an average student-teacher ratio of 17.1:1 in London schools, many students benefit from the focused attention that personalized 1-on-1 instruction provides. A tutor can work at your student's pace, fill learning gaps, and reinforce concepts in ways that larger classroom settings sometimes can't accommodate.
During the first session, your tutor will assess your student's current level, understand their academic goals, and identify areas where they need the most support. This helps establish a personalized learning plan that addresses your student's specific challenges and plays to their strengths.
Tutors working with London students are familiar with Kentucky's academic standards and assessments, including proficiency requirements across grade levels. They can target instruction toward specific standards your student is struggling with and help build the skills needed for success on state assessments.
Pricing varies based on the subject, tutor qualifications, and frequency of sessions—we work with families to find an arrangement that fits their needs. To get started, you'll share information about your student's academic needs, and we'll match them with a qualified tutor in the London area who's a good fit.
Tutors working with London students are vetted professionals with expertise in their subject areas—many have teaching backgrounds, advanced degrees, or specialized certifications. Each tutor is selected based on their ability to connect with students and deliver results in their specific subject.
Many students show improvement within the first few weeks of consistent tutoring, though the timeline depends on the subject, the student's starting point, and how frequently they meet with their tutor. Regular sessions combined with practice between meetings tend to produce the strongest results.
