I graduated from Notre Dame College in August 2015 with a Master???s Degree in Education (M.Ed.). I am currently studying to pass the state licensure exam to be certified as a Mild/Moderate Intervention Specialist k-12. My experience includes private, group, and individualized tutoring. My preference is one on one tutoring because tutoring and mentoring go hand in hand. The goal is to make the subject material fun and, if possible, make it a game. This will build self- esteem and boost self-confidence. One must find and teach to the student???s learning style and find different way to differentiate the subject (s) being taught. Always wrap up on a positive note and make sure you challenged the student for the next level.I was diagnosed with a learning disability in elementary school. English Language Arts was the biggest area of struggle for me, with some minor difficulty in math. I have learned to coexist with and overcome my disability. Because of my own struggles with learning, I know I can help students overcome their own academic downfalls.

I am currently an Emergency Medicine Resident practicing out of Brooklyn, NY. Prior to this, I completed my undergraduate studies at California State University San Marcos, where I obtained a bachelor's degree in Biology with a concentration in Molecular and Cellular Biology. Additionally, I hold an Associates of Social and Behavioral Sciences degree from Mira Costa College. Throughout my academic journey, I have had the opportunity to work with numerous students in various capacities. I started my tutoring journey in middle school and have continued to assist students throughout my college years. Engaging with different personalities and learning styles in group settings has significantly contributed to my growth as a tutor, enabling me to effectively cater to diverse needs. While my academic background has instilled a deep passion for Math and Science, I also possess a keen interest in English and Literature. I believe that a well-rounded education encompasses multiple disciplines, enhancing our ability to understand the world holistically. In addition to my academic pursuits, I have gained valuable experience as a medical student and medical scribe, allowing me to closely observe patient care in a clinical setting. This exposure has reinforced my commitment to pursuing a career in medicine and providing compassionate care to individuals in need. Furthermore, I actively engage in volunteer work within my local community, aiming to make a positive impact beyond the classroom. Overall, my academic achievements, tutoring experience, diverse interests, and involvement in the medical field and community collectively shape my profile as a dedicated and compassionate medical student. I am driven to excel in my studies, broaden my knowledge, and ultimately contribute meaningfully to the healthcare field as a competent and caring physician.

During my 3.5 years at Arizona State University I could never pick a focused area of study because I was, and still am, interested in everything. I started off as a math major because I was already very accomplished in the subject, having taken Calc 3 and Differential Equations in high school. However, I found myself wanting to explore other subjects as soon as I started college, taking courses in art and music history, dance, anthropology, and biology. I excelled in all of them, making it even harder for me to choose just one thing. I then became a biological sciences major, with an emphasis on genomics, but I couldnt let go of my other interests, wanting to continue my studies in anthropology, math, and dance. A year into that major and I wanted to change yet again, this time to physical anthropology. A year into physical anthropology, and I wanted to change my major even still. This time though I knew I had to slow down and really think about what it is I want to do.In my time away I have realized that what has remained constant for me is a love of learning. This is why I continue to go to my local library every month, consistently leaving with a stack of 10+ books. Furthermore, while taking classes in college I found that I really enjoyed helping other students succeed in their studies. I helped people in chemistry labs and biology labs, edited essays, and worked through math problem sets with other students. When I tutored students, regardless of subject, I would bring patience and understanding with me to the session. If they were not grasping a concept, then I knew it was something that I was doing wrong. Everyone learns differently and at different paces, and my goal was and is to be able to communicate the information you want to know in a style that is most suitable for you. Additionally, when it comes to math and science courses, I emphasize conceptual understanding. When tutoring and talking to other students in chemistry, physics, etc. , I found that often times they did not know why a formula worked or why a step was being taken, causing them to make mistakes when problems did not perfectly resemble examples done in class. When I tutor, I will make sure that students have a qualitative as well as a quantitative understanding of the material, making them more adaptable to different formats of test questions. And if youre wondering about French being listed in my tutoring subjects, I took four years of French in high school, placed top 10 in the National French test my junior and senior years, and I continue to work on my French by listening and talking to my boyfriend and his family, for whom French is one of their native languages.

My majors are Spanish and Latin American Studies with a minor in Management. I want to go to law school after graduating from Miami University, where I am currently enrolled as a junior. I tutor various subjects: Algebra 1, various levels of Spanish and topics in Spanish, Elementary School Math and Reading, English, essay editing, Math, Middle School Math and Writing, and Pre-Algebra. I tutor elementary schoolers in Spanish during the spring semesters at a local elementary school. This is subject that I am most passionate about and have the most fun tutoring. We can play games and do various hands-on activities with this subject, which I think is a great way to learn. In my spare time, I love to read, volunteer at the Ronald McDonald House, and play with my dogs.

I am a graduate of Gannon University. I received my Master of Education degree with a major in Curriculum and Instruction. I have been a certified teacher for 30 years and there is nothing more rewarding then watching that "A-ha!" moment from my students. These moments happen by building trust, having patience, and even putting in a little sense of humor when needed.I have tutored all elementary subjects, reading, and writing. My favorite subjects to tutor are writing, reading, and math. I have always excelled in these myself and am very comfortable helping others to do well in these areas also.My passion for teaching goes all the way back to my childhood. My parents knew right away that I would be a teacher by the way I interacted with others. When someone needed help, I didn't do it for them, I guided them to explore and experiment on their own to achieve the goal. To this day, I am still helping people/students in the same way. I encourage students to think outside of the box and then take pride of what they have just accomplished. This helps them build the confidence they need to prepare for the next level of learning. My philosophy of education is built upon my love for and experience in teaching. If I were asked to describe myself in as few words as possible, it would be firm, but loving. I believe in creating a safe environment where students have boundaries, yet are free to share, explore, experiment, and ask questions. Each student's experiential background plays a vital role in my teaching. Consistently seeking feedback before, during, and after lessons to check my students' level of understanding gives me the direction needed to continue teaching them successfully. In areas where students may lose focus, I prepare creative techniques or tactics to help make the important aspect of each lesson memorable and enjoyable as possible. Although I have stated what I do as a teacher, my philosophy is deeply embedded within my practices. These examples may sound like theories, but they have been my faithful, tried and true practices that make me a successful teacher.

I first began tutoring when I was in high school. There was just something about helping others learn difficult concepts that really appealed to me. I thought I might have wanted to become a teacher of some sort and went into UC Berkeley with these intentions.Since then, I fell in love with science and research and decided that I would go to medical school. As a doctor, I will be able to continue my passion for teaching while helping others in their most vulnerable states. I am starting medical school this fall at the University of California, Davis and am excited to begin my life long journey of not only treating others, but teaching my peers.

I'm a writer and teacher who just moved back to New York from Colorado. I received my BA from Columbia in 2012 (I studied creative writing), and I graduated from the fiction MFA program at Colorado State University in 2015. I have three years experience teaching English at Colorado State University, where I created my own curricula for my composition courses and worked extensively with my students one-on-one. I have additional experience as a writing center tutor and an editor, the latter for the Columbia Spectator and the Colorado Review. Outside of the classroom I've received two fiction fellowships - one from the magazine "A Public Space" and the other from the Fine Arts Work Center in Provincetown, MA.I love teaching and tutoring students of all ages. I believe a good tutoring relationship starts with an understanding of the student and his or her goals. I know going in that anyone I work with will necessarily be an expert on something that I know little about, and I try to carry this knowledge into the tutoring environment: we must understand each other as equals working toward a shared objective. I am here to help people become better readers, writers, and test-takers because those are my particular areas of expertise, but a good tutoring relationship must be free of condescension. I believe students should enjoy the work, increase their comfort with the work via low-stakes assignments, and take breaks. I hope to help students find a way to be engaged with the subject at hand, particularly because writing often affords more creativity and freedom of choice when it comes to subject matter. I look forward to working with you.

Frequently Asked Questions
Reading intervention is targeted, personalized instruction designed to help students who struggle with foundational reading skills like phonics, fluency, decoding, and comprehension. Students may benefit from reading intervention if they're reading below grade level, have difficulty sounding out words, struggle to understand what they read, or have been identified with dyslexia or other reading-based learning differences.
Research on 1-on-1 instruction shows that personalized tutoring can significantly accelerate reading progress by allowing tutors to diagnose specific skill gaps and address them directly, rather than using a one-size-fits-all approach.
Effective reading intervention tutors begin by assessing a student's current reading level across multiple areas: phonemic awareness, decoding skills, sight word recognition, fluency, and comprehension. They may use informal assessments, oral reading samples, and conversations with the student to pinpoint exactly where the breakdown is happening.
Once a tutor understands whether a student struggles with sounding out words, reading too slowly, comprehending text, or a combination of these, they can design personalized instruction that targets those specific gaps rather than reteaching skills the student has already mastered.
Tutors work to complement classroom instruction by understanding the reading curriculum, standards, and expectations your student's school uses. They can reinforce what's being taught in class while also filling in foundational gaps that may be holding your student back.
For example, if a school is introducing chapter books but your student still struggles with decoding, a tutor can work on decoding strategies while simultaneously building confidence with age-appropriate texts. This two-pronged approach helps students keep pace with grade-level content while solidifying the skills they need.
Reading intervention tutors use research-based strategies tailored to each student's needs. These may include:
- Phonics and decoding: Systematic instruction in letter-sound relationships and blending sounds into words
- Fluency work: Repeated reading of texts at appropriate levels to build speed and expression
- Comprehension: Pre-reading strategies, questioning techniques, and graphic organizers to help students understand and retain what they read
- Vocabulary building: Direct instruction and practice with words students encounter in texts
Tutors adjust these strategies based on how the student responds, ensuring instruction stays effective and engaging.
Reading progress depends on the severity of the student's struggles and how frequently they receive instruction. Students often show improvement in fluency and confidence within a few weeks of consistent tutoring, while foundational skill development (like phonics mastery) may take several months.
The key is consistency—students who work with a tutor 2-3 times per week typically see faster gains than those meeting less frequently. With personalized intervention and regular practice, many students can narrow the gap between their reading level and grade-level expectations significantly over a school year.
Excellent reading intervention tutors combine strong foundational knowledge of reading science with the ability to make learning engaging and pressure-free. They should understand the sequential nature of reading skills, recognize the signs of learning differences like dyslexia, and know how to diagnose where a student's reading breaks down.
Beyond expertise, the best tutors are patient, flexible, and skilled at building student confidence. They celebrate small wins, adjust pace and approach based on student response, and can explain reading concepts in ways that make sense to each individual learner.
With effective reading intervention, students typically experience improvements in decoding accuracy, reading fluency, comprehension, and confidence. Many students report that reading feels less frustrating and more enjoyable when they finally understand the patterns and skills that unlock texts.
Beyond scores and levels, personalized instruction helps students develop independence as readers. When they understand how to approach unfamiliar words and comprehend text, they're equipped to tackle reading challenges on their own—a skill that supports success across all subjects.
