I am a PhD in Molecular, Cellular and Developmental Biology with Thesis work in Microbiology. I received a B.S. in Biochemistry from Boston College. I never really thought I would get a doctorate in science- I found science to be quite challenging while I was doing my undergraduate studies. Learning how to study efficiently was really important for my success at Boston College and in getting into a PhD program. I hope that I can help my students learn how to learn by taking big complicated theories and applying them to every day examples. I will share the tricks I learned for studying efficiently so that my students can quickly absorb and understand what they need to know to pass an exam, a class, or take a standardized test.My favorite subjects are Biology and Chemistry (not surprisingly), but I have also tutored Math and Physics successfully to my fellow undergraduates at Boston College as well as high school and middle school students. I found that it is not the content but how you learn it that really is important on test day.Among the skills I hope to pass along include how to memorize loads of information and mechanisms (this is for those aspiring Biologists out there), how to recognize patterns in Chemistry so that you only have to learn ONE mechanism instead of 100, how to know what equation is the right equation for the problem at hand, how to do a problem from start to finish using logical steps and tapping into the knowledge you already know, how to eliminate wrong answers on tricky multiple choice questions, and how to efficiently study so that you still have time to relax and have a life (very important for success).Contrary to popular belief, most PhD students do not live in the lab. I like to get out and explore New York, watch Netflix marathons of Dexter and Orange is the New Black, and go out with friends as often as possible. Music is my passion and I try to get out to as many shows as possible in this great city. I even ran a non-commercial radio station back in Boston! Because I learned how to study early, I have time to do what I want instead of locking myself inside a library every time I have an exam. I hope to pass this great skill on to you so you can be successful but also well-rounded and happy with your life.

I studied physics at a liberal arts school, worked at Los Alamos National Laboratory, and did two years of work on a masters at University of New Mexico. I have taught lab courses in introductory physics and tutored college and high school students in physics and math. I am interested in making physics and math relatable to people who are not naturally adept at it. I have taken the SAT, the general GRE and the physics GRE subject tests.I also play trumpet and have studied music theory in music camps and AP music theory so I can tutor music theory.

I have been teaching and tutoring non-stop for the past three and a half years. I taught high school chemistry and general science, running labs, lessons, and anything else that was required. While doing that, I started teaching LSAT classes after work. Now, I'm a full time tutor, devoted to helping students score higher on tests and do better in classes. Because I've been a science teacher, I know how they think, why they do certain labs, and what they're likely to ask in tests. For LSAT, I've never worked with a student one-on-one and not raised his or her score.I love teaching, and would love to work with you!

I bring a unique blend of academic excellence and professional expertise to tutoring, with three advanced degrees, a Bachelor's in Mechanical Engineering (graduating magna cum laude and third in my class), a Master's in Computer Science specializing in Cognitive Artificial Intelligence, and an MBA in Finance with a focus on investment analysis. My academic journey began with tutoring my younger siblings in Math and Science, which grew into leading study groups of up to 50 students across grades 612. Over time, I expanded my teaching to college-level Physics, Mathematics, and Applied Mechanics, helping students connect complex theories to real-world applications.Throughout graduate school, I served as a teaching and research assistant, tutoring freshmen and sophomores in core subjects such as Algebra, Calculus, Statistics, and Physics. My teaching philosophy is rooted in Educational Essentialism, a structured, progressive approach that equips students to master increasingly difficult concepts while preparing them for higher academic and intellectual challenges. Recognized for academic excellence, including receiving the CITGO Graduate Student Award, I emphasize critical thinking and problem-solving skills that extend beyond the classroom. In addition to academic tutoring, I bring more than 20 years of professional experience in finance, engineering, and data-driven problem solving. I am proficient in QuickBooks, financial modeling, and exam preparation for competitive assessments such as the SAT, ACT, GRE, SHSAT, and FINRA licensing exams (SIE, Series 7, and Series 79). Whether guiding a high school student through Calculus or helping a professional prepare for a finance certification, I create a personalized, engaging learning environment where students build confidence and achieve measurable results.

I am a graduate of North Carolina State University. I received my Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences with a concentration in Human Biology and minors in Spanish and Nutrition. Since graduation, I moved to Los Angeles to serve with AmeriCorps through the American Red Cross where I taught disaster preparedness and helped with disaster recovery. Throughout my undergraduate education I traveled to the Dominican Republic and Nicaragua with Outreach360 on seven trips to teach Spanish Literacy and Public Health. I returned several times and witnessed the power of education in transforming impoverished communities. At North Carolina State University, I taught children how to eat healthy on a fixed income through Cooking Matters. I am currently teaching CPR and First Aid with the Red Cross and volunteer at a free clinic in Santa Monica while I apply to Medical School. While I have taught a broad range of subjects, Biology and Spanish are my passion. In my spare time, I enjoy riding horses, yoga, and hiking.

I am a graduate from Duke University with a B.S. in Neuroscience and a minor in Chemistry. As a neuroscience major, my focus was on cognitive neuroscience and, particularly, in using electroencephalography (EEG) to understand how visual distractors interfere with ongoing brain processes associated with cognitive performance. My current work at the Clinical and Translational Neuroscience Branch and Dynamic Imaging Core of the NIMH involves leveraging multiple brain imaging modalities (e.g., functional MRI (fMRI), diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) and magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS)) and the power of Genome Wide Association analysis to investigate single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) that might predict brain activation and connectivity patterns found in schizophrenia patients.I believe a commitment to education and to life-long learning is essential for a successful and meaningful existence. During my journey as a student I have come to love the process of scientific inquiry and how it allows us to understand, predict and shape reality. Tutoring students contributes greatly to my sense of self-fulfillment, as it allows me to share some of my passion for science and, at the same time, help others thrive and achieve their educational and career goals.I have worked as a mathematics tutor for middle school students of public schools located in underserved communities of Durham and as a teaching assistant for calculus-based undergraduate physics courses at Duke University. Additionally, during my time as a medical student in Brazil, I worked as teaching assistant for the cardiac physiology graduate course of University of Brasilia's School of Medicine. These experiences allowed me to work with students of multiple ages, educational levels, socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds and to develop an appreciation for individual uniqueness when it comes to learning strategies and preferences. As such, I try to respect each student's learning pace, level of comfort/aptitude for a particular subject and learning style when organizing a tutoring session. To me, studying should be not only about achieving academic success but, primarily, about having fun and developing an appreciation for continuous learning.I tutor human physiology, pharmacology, anatomy (neuroanatomy in particular), biology, chemistry (honors chemistry, physical chemistry), physics (classical mechanics, electricity & magnetism), algebra (1-3/4), pre-calculus, calculus I & II, SAT subject test prep (Biology E/M, Chemistry & Physics), MCAT test prep (Biological Sciences, Physical Sciences and Verbal Reasoning), Spanish and computer science (python programming in particular). Amongst these, I am particularly fond of teaching physics and of helping students prepare for and feel confident about taking the MCAT. In my spare time, I enjoy practicing yoga and meditation, biking, baking vegan desserts, playing my electric guitar, reading fantasy/sci-fi novels and watching a great soccer match.
