I am a scientist with 30 years in the drug development industry, but I have a passion for teaching. I currently teach Biology and Anatomy part-time at the community college level. I think I bring a unique perspective to teaching and tutoring because I live what I teach, I use Biology concepts every day at work. I relate well to students one-on-one and love teaching!

I am a PhD student in Pharmacology at the University of Virginia. Previously, I attended the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul Minnesota and earned a B.S in Biochemistry. It was during my undergraduate career that I became interested and passionate about teaching. I found the process of helping others understand material I loved, to be exhilarating. As a graduate student I had limited opportunities to pursue tutoring. As such, I have joined Varsity Tutoring and am SO excited for the chance to get back into teaching students AND learning from them.I am a scientist so, I love tutoring students in biochemistry, cell and molecular biology, microbiology and many other topics. I also enjoy history.When I am not in school, you can find me cooking, reading or playing with the dog my boyfriend and I share. I am a 4th year medical student going into Internal Medicine. I joined varsity tutors, because I was excited for the opportunity to teach through their online platform. I've always enjoyed school and a big part of that has been the amazing teachers I have had along the way. I've always loved teaching as well, tutoring through different organizations during my undergraduate at Johns Hopkins University in Neuroscience and now at medical school at Thomas Jefferson University where I will get my M.D next year.After recently finishing Step 2, scoring above the 90th percentile, finding my groove through the arduous study process, I am excited for the opportunity to pass on my strategies to students studying for medical board exams. I have also been an SAT and MCAT volunteer tutor for many years and would be excited to teach the test taking strategies I have developed over that period of time. My favorite subjects to tutor are biology and chemistry, they have been my passions for a while and I have developed a strong foundation in the fields reinforced in medical school. I started as a Tutor at Austin Community College, where I spent 5 years tutoring a broad scope of mathematical and scientific courses as required. I eventually became the Organic Chemistry Instructor for students interested in becoming Pre-Medical Students . As I have spent many years in the fields of Mathematics, Chemistry, and Biochemistry, I have developed a practical approach into helping others understand the material as well as shedding light into any scientific and mathematical subjects with topics that relate. I graduated from St. John's University with summa cum laude. I received my Bachelors of Science in Biology and I am currently applying to medical schools. Throughout college, I have tutored numerous immigrant children all over New York in subjects such as Science and English, and I taught English to adults who immigrated from South America. While I can tutor a wide range of subjects, I am very passionate and eager to teach all levels of Biology and English. In my experience the English language can be very challenging to grasp, yet with the right mindset and consistent study it is very much possible! I am extraordinarily excited to have started as a research assistant at Boston University School of Medicine this June. My position allows me to explore my clinical research and analytical chemistry interests while preparing for the Medical College Admissions Test (MCAT).I've had amazing opportunities academically mentoring matriculating first-year students, virtually tutoring elementary kids in math, working with various students as the president of a community-based honor society, and teaching subject matter concepts as a lab assistant for analytical chemistry biochemistry labs. As a tutor, I try to tie in as many real-world examples to make confusing topics more manageable and applicable to everyday life. I like teaching challenging topics in many different ways until the student can confidently grasp the idea. In addition to concepts, I encourage and help my students find and try different studying techniques that suit them best.Outside of an academic environment, I often lift weights, run, spend time with close family, or enjoy finding a new restaurant to try.

In addition, I have graduated Northwestern University with a Master's of Science in Reproductive Science and Medicine. I have experience working as a teaching assistant in college, as well as a private tutor for for several years now. The biological sciences and human development and physiology are some of the subjects I am most passionate about learning, studying, and teaching. I also greatly enjoy Psychology, English, and other science classes as well. I am bilingual, speaking English and Russian, which has aided me in helping many students learn Spanish, as I can understand the process of learning a second language. I have experience working with students of all ages, from kindergarten though college. I used to teach figure skating to kids (both in group and one-on-one lessons) which has really helped me learn to work with kids of different ages, and how to approach different learning styles l. I think the most important part of being a tutor is being able to adapt to the different learning needs of each individual student. Everyone learns in different ways, at their own pace, and has their unique strengths and struggles, and I believe I have the ability to understand and cater to the specific needs of each student.-Vicky
