German Tutoring review by Tim in Palo Alto, CA
The student's mother asked if I could meet with him twice a week to review what he has been learning in class. We basically reviewed Chapter 1 of his Biology book today. I assigned him to complete some flashcards for the key terms so that he will have them when time comes to study for finals. He understands a decent amount of the concepts. Also, with some of the easier terms, he feels like he will remember them without review. Some ARE easy, but I will make sure we continue to go over all the terms to ensure that he improves in his recall abilities.

We went over the lesson the student learned in class about dividing polynomials. At first he was very confused, as if he did not learn it in class, so I re-taught him the material. After some practice, we made a step-by-step guide of the procedures. He still needs to practice so he does not forget it.

Today we worked on her essay, analyzing a sample essay she wrote for me this week. We discussed how to make her examples more specific and tailor made to emphasis her thesis statement and be the most concise. We also outlined several more prompts together, practicing how to brainstorm, etc. We also did a sample writing section, focusing on thinking about what the grammar error was first before looking at the answer options. I think she is going to do great this Saturday, she seemed confident about the test.

German Tutoring review by Ava in Palo Alto, CA
We covered sections 4.4 and 4.5.  Section 4.4 consisted of solving ax^2 + bx + c = 0 by factoring when a > 1.  The student was able to understand the concept and she was able to do two problems on her own.  Section 4.5 consisted of solving quadratic equations by finding square roots.  To be able to do this problem, one needs to be fluid in simplifying radicals, rationalizing denominators, and factoring/simplifying.  This section was difficult for her because she is still working on these skills and these are not problems that she can learn in one session.  She was able to follow but unable to do most of the problems on her own.  It is crucial for her to do as much Algebra 1 online or on her own to build her skills so that she can be prepared for more advanced topics in her Algebra 2 class.

German Tutoring review by Molly in Palo Alto, CA
During this session, we continued reviewing vocabulary associated with traveling, but this time we practiced phrases and combining the words with phrases to make full sentences. We first played a game to review, followed by learning the new phrases. Lastly, we combined all of the information learned by performing a skit for practice. The girls will review the words for another skit next session, and they seemed to have enjoyed learning the subject!
