I love teaching languages and literacy. I hold degrees from the University of Georgia, Georgia Southern University and the University of West Georgia. I have a specialist degree in early childhood education.
I have extensive literacy certifications. With the help of my school district, I have obtained a dyslexia endorsement. These classes taught me about the laws and rules of current trends with dyslexia and public schools. For learning to teach struggling readers, I have associate-level certificates including Classroom Educator and Beyond the Basics instruction with Orton-Gillingham. Other certifications that I have acquired during my career include special education and gifted endorsements.
I will help you with any area of language learning that you need. I can combine listening, speaking, reading, writing with direct and explicit instruction when needed. Whether you are a high school student, a child with dyslexia, or you need assistance with writing a paper in an English or language arts class, I will tailor my teaching to fit your learning needs. My free time is consumed with travel, friends and family. My hobbies and interests include attending my book club, travel, art, and sports. For more about my family, I have two teenage sons and I attend many baseball games and track meets to watch them play. Also included with family is my outgoing mini Goldendoodle, Daisy. She is a centerpiece. She is a "baseball dog" and she is always enthusiastic to get out and meet new people and dogs at baseball games or just walk in the park. Although I was born in Savannah, I am not "completely Southern". My family history includes a long line of teachers who started a school named Gorham Academy in Maine. This school is now the art school at the University of Southern Maine. Coincidentally, my husband has family up North and we like to spend time visiting New England in the summer.
