I recently received my MA in English from North Carolina State University, where, along with my studies in American and postcolonial literature, I was a composition instructor for first year, non-English major students. I am new to the Chicagoland area, and work as a bookseller at Barnes and Noble so I can make a living talking about and sharing books with others. As a teacher, I am firm believer in students' own knowledge and expertise with which they enter the classroom. Teaching, for me, is a matter of helping students channel the voice they already possess. I am excited to share my passion for learning, reading, and writing with students across the Chicagoland community. I focus mainly on English, Literature, and Writing in my tutoring, but also enjoy History of any variety. From AP and standardized tests to research projects and personal essays for individual classes, I believe we all benefit from learning to be better readers, writers, and communicators. In my spare time, I enjoy basketball, video games, exploring the city, spending time outdoors, and, of course, reading and writing!
