I am very happy with our experience so far with Varsity Tutors. They matched my daughter with reading specialist Mary and she is wonderful! My 10 year old daughter feels happy after her sessions and believes her tutor has already helped her.

Emma: Minnesota tutor

Certified Tutor

I am a senior at The University of Chicago studying Biological Sciences and am currently in the medical school application process. I began tutoring elementary and high school students while I was in high school as a part of my school's National Honor Society chapter and I have pursued teaching opportunities ever since. At the University of Chicago I have been a Physiology teaching assistant for three years. I tutor all elementary subjects, high school subjects including advanced placement level courses and college level chemistry, biology, computer science, and English coursework. More specifically, I am highly qualified to tutor students in Algebra, Geometry, Statistics, Computer Science, Genetics, Molecular and Cell Biology, Developmental Biology, Physiology, Ecology and Evolution, General Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Biochemistry, Physics- mechanics, and literature and language courses including AP English Language, AP English literature, and college level literature courses.

I am the Editor and Chief of the University of Chicago's newspaper The Chicago Maroon and have extensive writing and editing experience; I am able to help students become better writers and communicators, including preparation for timed standardized testing (ACT and GRE). I hope to continue my education in medicine to serve urban underserved communities, like the Southside of Chicago where I currently live. As someone who started their journey in STEM feeling like they were not smart enough to become a doctor, educators have had an incredible role in my life, showing me that hard work beats talent every day. I hope to pass this on to my students, showing them that academic success starts with a winning mindset. I will prepare students by giving them both academic and mental preparation to feel confident and calm on test day.

Outside of my coursework, I am a varsity cross country and track athlete at the University of Chicago and absolutely love running on the lakefront every dayeven when the windchill is below 0 degrees. I am also an undergraduate researcher at University of Chicago Medicine, where I work on computational image pathology algorithms using deep learning and machine learning.
