Andrew: Victoria tutor

Certified Tutor

I have a BA in English from Columbia University in the City of New York. And, I am working towards my Master's in Teaching English at the secondary level at Stony Brook University. I have been tutoring professionally for the past three years, and tutoring is what inspired me to get my teaching certification.

I am ready and able to help students with all things English Language Arts. I am passionate about reading and writing, but I also aim to help students connect well-practiced thinking to the art of English. Every student is capable, but they often need to be taught complex concepts at a level and pace customized just for them. I love to find an angle to help a student truly understand and learn what he or she is practicing. My teaching style combines hard work, fun, and understanding.

I am well-versed in the reading and writing sections of the ACT and SAT as well as the argumentative essay on the ACT and the rhetorical essay on the SAT. I can help students approach the test with a multitude of dynamic strategies, helping them to answer the questions through knowledge instead of instinct.

I have extensive experience working with students on college admissions essays. This may be my favorite subject to tutor as I enjoy helping students say something interesting about themselves (most students are reluctant at first but exuberant when they write freely). Students I have worked with have been accepted to Columbia, Harvard, Yale, NYU, Cornell, USC, Johns Hopkins, Stony Brook, and many other top universities.

With my rigorous education in English and literature, I love to help students discover their ability for working with English. Most students understand more than they realize and simply need guidance and wisdom to realize their potential. My enthusiasm for teaching English will help them get there.

Beyond English, rhetoric, and literature, I am passionate about film, media studies, motorcycle mechanics, and many other crafts and interests. I have a wealth of experience in personal and professionals fields that helps me relate and create with students.
