Certified Tutor
From my experience, all people are intelligent and talented in their own ways. Thus, I approach tutoring not like I know more than you, but that I know something I can share, just as you know things I don't. That's why tutoring, to me, is about respect. By respecting the value of each other's opinions and insights, we can collaborate more efficiently in a sharing of knowledge. Moreover, it's by listening to your points of view that I gain an understanding of the best way to frame my lesson plans to give you the best chance for success.
Like you, I'm a student. For the last two years, I've been earning my M.A. in Government from Johns Hopkins online. My undergraduate degree, meanwhile, is in Central & Southwest Asian Studies. Thus, whether it's political science and history or cultural anthropology and general social studies, if the topic is within the realm of the social sciences, then I love to teach about it. Outside of school, I'm a professional writer and the owner of a digital marketing firm in Fort Myers, Florida.
You might be wondering, "With all of that going on, why are you also a tutor?" Well, my interest in tutoring started a few years ago, when I was a private English as a second language instructor. I realized then that I enjoyed sharing information with other people, but, more importantly, people enjoyed learning from me. The reason I was a successful ESL teacher is that, despite most of my students being older than I was, I never made assumptions about them. They already knew the world, and my job was to help them explain their knowledge in better English. Similarly, you already have lots of knowledge, so my job isn't to tell you everything, but simply to help you take what you know and build on it even more.
