What is your teaching philosophy?

To make learning as fun as possible. Learning should never be frustrating or painful. There is always a way to enjoy the process!

What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?

I make my own lesson plans and believe in lots of practice. Sometimes homework assignments aren't enough to ensure a student understands the material adequately.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

I would get to know their behavior, study habits, learning difficulties and motivations.

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

By helping them put a learning process in place as well as implementing a study schedule.

How would you help a student stay motivated?

Take a break and think of a new way to present the material.

How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?

By reading books that the student is interested in and building up their vocabulary.

How do you build a student's confidence in a subject?

Make sure that you ask plenty of questions that they already know the answer to, and slowly inch toward harder questions that build off the previous ones.

What types of materials do you typically use during a tutoring session?

I use a whiteboard, flashcards, prepared practice questions and games.
