What is your teaching philosophy?
If a student is more of an oral, visual or hands-on learner, I will adjust my method of tutoring to better suit the student.
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
In a first session, I will introduce myself and let the student get acquainted with me so the student can feel relaxed and comfortable.
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
I will teach them the best methods of learning and studying that corresponds with how they learn and grasp information.
How would you help a student stay motivated?
Look at all possible ways that I can take to help the student learn the difficult skill or concept.
What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?
I let them tell me what material they need to take care of, what they may have difficulty in and what their strong at doing.
How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?
I will try to connect the subject to their personal life or my personal life for them to have an easier idea or view about the subject.
How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?
I let them read a paragraph from a reading they're assigned, and ask them what vocabulary words they don't understand. I teach them to picture what is being read, what the setting is, the tone and the theme of the reading.
What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?
I will assess short quizzes or a short written response.
