Introduce myself, and say a funny joke.

By allowing them to teach me, with my guidance.

By asking them to do examples through my sessions.

Switch to a different learning method, either it's on a whiteboard, or video examples.

By having them read it out loud and retell the story in their own words.

Hands on work.

By giving them the confidence that they can solve any problem by learning how to do it, vs knowing the answer.

What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?

Have them create problems, and teach me how to do it.

How do you build a student's confidence in a subject?

By starting with easy problems, and saying they are hard problems one session, and the next session switch it up and say the hard problems are the easy ones.

How do you evaluate a student's needs?

Allowing them to teach me/show me what they know already and what they need improvement in.

How do you adapt your tutoring to the student's needs?

By using different engagement methods, either face to face, whiteboard, or self teaching.

What types of materials do you typically use during a tutoring session?

Whiteboard mostly, and calculator.

What is your teaching philosophy?

The lesson isn't over until you can apply it to life.
