Certified Tutor
I am a native Spanish speaker and a language enthusiastic. My experience teaching Spanish is very diverse. I have had students from 7th to 12th grade whose marks have amazingly improved in 3 tutoring sessions from 49 to 92. I have also taught the language to adult professionals who want to improve their Spanish as a valuable skill that will push their careers to the next level. I have a Bachelors Degree in Economics and a Masters Degree in Organizational Development. I speak 3 languages fluently (Spanish, English and Brazilian Portuguese) ; currently I am learning Korean. As a foreign language student myself, my approach to learning is to make it fun and exciting. With my school students, I tend to breakdown difficult concepts in few several pieces that are easy to understand, while with my adult learners I use contents that are of special interest to them. Learning a language opens doors to amazing new different parts of the world and new experiences; I will be honored to support my students in that journey!!

What is your teaching philosophy?
I love to be a student, so as a teacher I may embrace my student's needs. I like to hear about the student's objectives, and I make sure that we work together to set up a path to achieve those objectives.
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
I will discuss my student's background in the language, the challenges that the person is facing, and the personal objectives of the students in terms of mastering the language.
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
I would recommend certain books and specific TV shows that will help the student to improve their knowledge of the language.
How would you help a student stay motivated?
Providing varied activities and working on relevant content that is of a special interest for the student.
If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?
I would convert complex concepts, or structured ones into more simple concepts. I also would use multiple input/output strategies -- visual, auditory, tactile, and kinesthetic.
How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?
I would provide additional work on Spanish phonemes that are not present in the student's native language. It's important to identify the main differences between Spanish and the student's native language. I would provide extra practice in reading words, sentences, and stories.
What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?
It's important to learn what kind of activities motivate the student.
How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?
I am very patient, and I consider myself a great listener. If a student is struggling with a subject, I will be there 100% for them to find ways to make their learning process easier.
What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?
The best way to make sure a student is understanding material is to ask questions and facilitate interaction.
How do you build a student's confidence in a subject?
Celebrating success!!
How do you evaluate a student's needs?
I would apply an assessment test at the beginning of the tutoring process.
How do you adapt your tutoring to the student's needs?
I would learn about the student's preferences and activities that he/she enjoys the most.
What types of materials do you typically use during a tutoring session?
Flashcards, images, and games.
