Certified Tutor

My undergraduate degree in History is from Illinois College, a small liberal arts school. I obtained a Masters in Education from Nova Southeastern University out of Ft. Lauderdale, FL through their Skylight Online program. I taught social studies for ten years in a public high school. During this time I was an active leader among my peers in School Improvement, Classroom Management, and other areas of concern for the district. I am certified in Social Studies and have taught United States History, World History, and Geography. I am well versed in Civics and the US Constitution. I have a strong base in European and Western History, as well. I have taught at the honors level. My teaching experience also includes many years in an After School Tutoring program where I helped more students that just my own. There I have helped AP students to understand how they needed to address their work, particularly writing and DBQs, to fit the expectations of Advanced Placement. I also have worked with homebound students in more than just Social Studies course.
In my free time I enjoy sewing and baking. I spent several seasons helping my college and friend with costumes for school plays (Cinderella, The Color Purple, Annie, Dreamgirls, Little Shop of Horrors, etc). Besides costumes, I sew and alter clothes and accessories. I find it to be a very practical and rewarding hobby. I enjoy baking a variety of good from breads to pies to other wonderful creations. They are fun to share. I also enjoy the outdoors and like to camp and bike.
