I am a graduate of New York University. I received my Bachelor of Science in Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering with a focus on Process Engineering. Currently, I am working towards higher education degrees and starting my career as an Engineer. Helping others to learn and understand material has always been a passion of mine. Immersing myself in a rigorous Engineering curriculum, I found myself working closely with peers and classmates in understanding the subject material. During my time at New York University, I served as a tutor for the Tutoring Center at the School of Engineering working with individuals and groups from a variety of subjects corresponding to Engineering, such as mathematics, physics, life sciences, with a primary focus on Chemical sciences and Chemical Engineering coursework. As a part of the University outreach program, I had the opportunity to work with high school students and provide tutoring after school for local high schools in the area with respect to STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) subjects. I have a strong affinity for tutoring Math and Science materials. These subjects require strong problem solving skills. In my experience working with students in Standardized test preparation, we find the time spent on the Math portions to be the most enriching with results. T.H White once claimed 'Education is experience, and the essence of experience is self-reliance.' I hold similar values to T.H White with respect to the learning process. There is always something to learn, and the best way to accomplish this is to immerse one-self in the subject. Through continuous repetition and exposure, problem solving skills will be developed and we become more confident in handling the problems that we face. I also do not believe in the concept of failure, for mistakes we make can be used to learn and better ourselves. Outside of academia, I am a club soccer coach training and teaching the game to young children and adolescence. I enjoy keeping my brain and body active through puzzles, reading, exercise, and many sports specifically soccer and volleyball. I enjoy activities that induce progress, as I am always looking to better myself.

What is your teaching philosophy?
T.H. White once claimed 'Education is experience, and the essence of experience is self-reliance.' I hold similar values to T.H. White with respect to the learning process. There is always something to learn, and the best way to accomplish this is to immerse oneself in the subject. Through continuous repetition and exposure, problem solving skills will be developed and we become more confident in handling the problems that we face. I also do not believe in the concept of failure, for mistakes we make can be used to learn and better ourselves.
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
In a typical first session, I look to identify the student's strength and weaknesses. This way, I can structure the sessions moving forward to complement the student's strengths and improve the areas that are not as developed.
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
Allow the student to come to the solution in their own methods. There is no wrong way to solve a problem. However, allow them the opportunity to correct or optimize their process to become more efficient at problem solving.
How would you help a student stay motivated?
My attitude towards the session and subject will translate directly to the student. Building the student's confidence in themselves will help them stay motivated, and sharing my passions for the subject should relay to the student as well.
If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?
Try to find alternative methods that help the student relate better to the skill. I would do my best to understand the issue as if I were the student.
How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?
Bolster their reading comprehension abilities using passages they enjoy reading. Encourage the student to read more frequently in subject areas he or she is interested in, but also mention to explore new subjects.
What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?
It is important to develop a casual relationship with the student and develop a "friendship" so the student trusts the tutor and feels comfortable in their presence.
How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?
Find out what excites and engages the students elsewhere and see how the subjects can be related.
What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?
Repetition of concepts and countless example problems. However, try different variations of the same concept or technique from various starting points and different directions (i.e., giving less or more info or making the student work backwards, or ask the student why after each step).
How do you build a student's confidence in a subject?
Help them succeed and make them feel empowered and knowledgeable on the subject. Provide them with examples you know they will be successful at and a few examples you would like them to "struggle with" but end up with positive results.
How do you evaluate a student's needs?
I try to identify specific areas where the student struggles by reaching out to the parents and teachers who are involved with the student. Also, I review their individual performance on previous assignments.
How do you adapt your tutoring to the student's needs?
No two students learn in similar fashions. There is no template I use. Every student I work with is treated as an individual, and I work hard in the beginning to identify which areas to focus on and develop a game plan to move forward.
What types of materials do you typically use during a tutoring session?
I prefer to use student provided materials to help them relate to what is being taught in class. If I see an appropriate opportunity to further challenge the student and provide more exposure/experience to problems, I bring in personal reference materials.
