Certified Tutor

I am a graduate of Wesleyan University, where I received my B.A. in African Studies with concentrations in History and Religion. I have two years of professional experience as a math tutor in Richmond, Virginia. I also spent a summer in Nairobi, Kenya, teaching at an all-girls school. I greatly enjoy tutoring both history (and related social studies) and mathematics because I see them as two different ways of telling stories about the world in which we live. Tutoring history means building stories out of a collection of facts, a love of places, peoples, and cultures both near and far that I learned young while describing my family history - with a father from Cape Town, South Africa, and a mother from New Orleans - to others. Tutoring mathematics (and standardized tests) means breaking an idea down to its most basic parts, figuring out why and how it works in a way that brings great improvement in both understanding and practical performance.

In my spare time, I love dancing, writing, and Netflix, and never travel on the subway without a good book.
