The student completed problem set 90 for homework. He got an 82 on his last math quiz- definitely a job well done. We are continuing to work with negative numbers and on problem solving. We are still putting particular emphasis on understanding and breaking down word problems. He shows real improvement, but we will continue to work on this.

Tomorrow is the student's big end-of-year test, and so we continued to work through a practice test that his teacher gave him. We focused mainly on rate and ratio problems and also looked at a number line problem, something he hadn't seen since the last time we worked on it months ago.

We continued to practice patterns and paper folding. She understands them very well now and did a great job. She did not get many wrong and went through them very quickly. We even ran out of material after the first hour; the same amount of questions it took two hours to complete in our previous sessions. I think she will do very well on the test!

The student and I are continuing to identify different letters and are continuing to work on spelling words. The goal is to start applying all the hard work he's done to reading within the next 2 weeks.

Tutoring review by Rachel in Mansfield, TX
The student and I used this session to study for his upcoming test in math. He had a study guide that we went through together. The main topic was proofs of triangle congruency, angle measures, and side measures in various shapes. It also involved using the definitions of equilateral, isosceles, and scalene in order to solve for side and angle measures using algebra. As we reviewed, he got more confident with applying the correct reasonings for each argument (i.e. reflexive property, transitive property) and with ordering his proof. He was unsure about how to use CPCTC, so we worked through a few proofs that involved this to illustrate the point. At the end of the session, he seemed much more comfortable with the material, and I left him with a few more problems to work on before his test.

Today, the student completed a practice SSAT exam. He took the verbal reasoning and reading comprehension sections, as well as one of two quantitative reasoning sections. We need to continue to work on analogies and synonyms.
