I have been a teacher for almost a decade, working with learners of all ages, and am currently undertaking a doctorate in Education at the University of Cambridge, England. I am passionate about widening access to learning and education, supporting learners of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities, and making learning inclusive and enjoyable!
I have worked with children from ages 0-5 in a nursery (kindergarten) setting, helping individuals prepare for school, and learning to read and write. I have also volunteered in high schools, as well as tutored high-school students (in 1:1, group, and classroom settings), in English, Media, and Music. In these roles, I have supported individuals through all levels of high school examinations. Additionally, I have worked as a University Lecturer, where I have designed and taught modules in undergraduate degrees. I have also provided 1:1 supervisions for students in their final undergraduate years.
My interest in supporting learning comes from my own passion for learning. I studied BA (Hons) Media at Queen Margaret University, Scotland, where I graduated with a first-class degree before studying for a Masters in Comparative Literature. For this, I received a distinction, and then achieved a full, highly-competitive scholarship to study at the University of Cambridge, where I am currently conducting my PhD in Education. As a neurodivergent teacher myself, I am particularly passionate about supporting neurodivergent students, and helping learners to work within their own parameters and push through/against societal expectations and access barriers. I have worked with many students from lower-income backgrounds, difficulty accessing or staying within school systems, and neurodivergent students, which informs my own teaching philosophy. I have significant experience with tutoring high-school and university-level students with neurocognitive divergencies such as autism, ADHD, dyslexia, dyspraxia, and mental ill-health.
I am open to tutoring in a variety of subjects related to my own knowledge and expertise. I am keen to support:
- Young children (aged 5 and under), or learners of any age who are learning to read and write
- Learners aged 5-12, in subjects like English, Reading and Writing, and Media
- Learners aged 12-18, who are undertaking high school exams, in English and Media related subjects
- University or college-level learners in subjects related to English and/or Media, Communications, and Film
- Support for all learners with general academic writing and skills
- Those seeking to apply to universities and hoping for support with applications.
I like to create a friendly, laid-back environment that is inclusive and accessible to all learners. I have a highly individual approach to education, which takes into account learners' needs and interests. I am dedicated to getting to know each learner: what works for them in education, what doesn't work, and what their interests are outside of education and schooling. I am also keen to take into consideration individual access needs or desires, such as rest breaks; particular lighting/sound environments; fidgeting/stimming needs; and more.
