French Tutoring review by Melissa in Portsmouth
We focused again on the student's upcoming unit 3 test. She's going to do great. She did great on the vocabulary; she has the irregular verb s'asseoir memorized, and she does great with reflexive verbs. We reviewed present tense together, and I gave her a study guide for that. She knows that's the main thing she needs to study. We worked on some short compositions together. She did fairly well. She knows what she needs to study from that--mainly verbs. But I'm sure she's going to do great Thursday.

The student and I reviewed and prepared for his next test that will be counting for both the missed and the next one. We covered reading, vocabulary, and grammar. My real goal is not just to have him pass the class, but to have him remember and master what he already knows and add more to that foundation. He knows more than what he thinks, and my earnest desire is to have him realize that.

We started working on the vocabulary for a project the student has 3 weeks to work on. The project concerns working with 2 others who must pretend they are working in a salon and spa. They have a client who is requesting a complete beauty makeover, including hair, nails, makeup, and wardrobe. Each student is assigned one of the verb tenses practiced in the past several weeks. The student's tense is passe compose. So, we discussed several possibilities for questions, and I helped her form some, in French, reviewing helping verbs and past participles. She also informed me that her score for the last test was indeed a passing score. The teacher graded on a curve, which allowed her final score to be 88%.

French Tutoring review by Lauren in Portsmouth
Tonight we reviewed the past tense called le passe compose. We drilled irregular past participles and practiced the formation of this tense which can be tricky. We also did exercises to practice differentiating when to use which auxiliary verb with the past tense (avoir or etre.) We did some review of how to express nothing, no one and never in French. Last of all, we went over how to conjugate reflexive verbs in both the present and the past tense (passe compose) I recommend the student work more on memorizing the past participles of verbs and that she go over reflexive verbs before her test.

During the two sessions, we went over vocabulary words and made sure that the student is able to write it correctly. The student did very well, just had some issues with a few words. He should review the words that he struggled with before his quiz.

French Tutoring review by Schuyler in Portsmouth
We worked on vocab and verb conjugations for the student's upcoming test. We used an online quiz to narrow down which phrases and words were challenging. By the end of the session, he had a firm grasp on all of his vocabulary words and phrases and was only making a few small spelling and accent placement mistakes. He is confident in his verb conjugations, and rightly so. He has a good grasp on the conjugations of the conditional and imperfect tenses, and understands when to use which. He is an eager student and supplied his workbook to add additional material to our study session.
