Certified Tutor

After obtaining my Bachelor's in chemistry from Bowdoin College, I taught high school chemistry and physics for 4 years. I then returned to school to earn a PhD in synthetic organic chemistry from the University of Minnesota. After teaching at a few liberal arts colleges, I joined the chemistry department at Northwestern University, where I taught organic chemistry classes for 23 years.

My passions lie in organic chemistry and the spectroscopic analysis of organic compounds. I believe that chemistry is logical and accessible, and I strive to demystify its complexities for my students. Having taught over 10,000 students, I have learned to work with a wide range of learning styles. My goal is to create a supportive environment where students feel empowered to tackle difficult material, drawing connections between classroom learning and real-world applications. Outside of tutoring, I enjoy cooking, which enriches my understanding of chemistry and helps me convey its relevance in everyday life.
