Writing, especially creative writing, has been a passion of mine for over half of my life. And as a creative writing major at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington on track to graduate with honors, I have and continue to dedicate myself to improving my at craft and to spreading what I have learned. Although I don't have formal teaching experience, I have provided guidance to friends and peers in subjects like creative writing, essay writing, and English grammar. I can also draw on the experience in writing workshops and peer critique I have picked up from my college courses.
My approach focuses on understanding the unique way in which each student struggles with different aspects of writing. Be it a quirk of grammar that isn't quite clicking, a larger structural issue like when to break paragraphs or how to transition from one section to another, or craft questions like how to balance character and story or information and analysis, everyone has trouble with something, and often in different ways. I am happy to try or create new approaches in order to find a way to help everybody. After all, communication is one of the most essential parts of life in any field, so helping students understand how best to express themselves in the written word not only helps them achieve better grades or personal goals, but will become an invaluable skill throughout their whole lives. I truly believe that allowing students to find their voice in writing and equipping them with the tools to explore it creatively is one of the most important things we can teach, and it is my goal to do just that.

Outside of writing, I'm a big reader and something of an artist. I love spending hours on a piece, be it written or drawn, going over ever little detail until it's something I can look back on and be proud of. On that front, I've also recently added sewing to my list of creative outlets, and I've found it quite satisfying. I'm also a fan of tabletop games like Dungeons and Dragons, and have even run a few campaigns myself. It takes some dedication, but it's worth it to find myself at a table surrounded people I've gotten to know through the game all having fun together.
