Charlie: Edmond tutor
Certified Tutor
I am an incoming Master of Science student in Financial Mathematics at the University of Chicago, and an alumnus of the University of Chicago (The College) with a Bachelor of Science in Astrophysics and a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science (Machine Learning specialization).
When I was around 6 years old, my grandmother taught me how to multiply and divide. This was an extremely valuable experience, as it provided me with a perspective on mathematics that most students my age did not possess, and ultimately assisted me in reaching my current career path.
At the age of 15, I used the same approach as my grandmother to teach my little brother, who has level 3 autism, basic arithmetic. Since then, I've informally taught both my niece and nephew arithmetic and tutored my older sister on the Math and Science sections of the GED Test. I also have formal experience tutoring Geometry and as a Teaching Assistant for an introductory Computer Science course at the University of Chicago.
I tutor a variety of quantitative and technical subjects, but I'm most passionate about Physics, Math, and Computer Science. From my experience, both as a tutor and a student, people are most susceptible to learned helplessness in these subjects. I aim to eliminate these beliefs and prevent them from manifesting. I believe a student learns best through patience, reassurance, and fun.
I enjoy reading, playing chess, playing tennis, and watching YouTube videos.
