I started off tutoring when I was in high school by volunteering for different organizations that allowed me to help out students in subjects that fit my expertise. I decided that I wanted to continue this journey by finding a job opportunity, like this, that would allow me to continue my passion for helping students learn in ways that allow them to truly understand and grasp content. I know from first-hand experience how difficult it can be to pick up content quickly or learn lessons in ways that just don't work for you. I received my high-school diploma from Alliance Academy for Innovation and am currently an undergraduate student at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. I am majoring in Cancer Biology and Neuroscience with a minor in Biology and Chemistry. I am a researcher under the UAB Medicine O'Neal Comprehensive Cancer Center, Department of Genetics, with Dr. Marsiglia's Lab. I am able to tutor English courses, grades 2-10, and math/science courses, grades 2-8. I would say my favorite subjects to tutor are biology and English. I have a lot of experience with English courses and creative/scientific writing styles and am confident in my ability to produce quality writing. I am passionate about Biology - as I further my studies in my major, I grow closer to this subject and strive to learn more about it. When teaching, I think it is important to understand the student; what do they struggle with, what techniques work best for them, what are their preferred styles and methods. Understanding factors like these helps to establish a baseline before tutoring to ensure that you really get through to a student. I also think this practice and quizzing are super helpful to learn content and make it stick to your head instead of just memorizing. This helps with more rigorous courses when it comes to application-based questions. Outside of the academic realm, I love to have fun! I enjoy pickleball and keeping myself active, finding new music, and spending quality time with my dog and loved ones.
