Teagan: Baytown tutor
Certified Tutor
I'm a recent graduate of the University of Pittsburgh, graduating with a Bachelor's in History, with minors in English Literature, Classical Civilizations, and Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies. I'm a current Master's student at Brandeis University studying English and Women's Studies.
I've worked as a K-12 substitute teacher for the last four years, and, for three of my four years of undergrad, worked in my university's Writing Center as a Writing Tutor. I received two promotions in this role.
As a substitute, I've worked in both mainstream and special education classrooms (ie: REACH), and have experience with a myriad of subject matters (ie: Social Studies, Math, English).
My favorite subject to tutor is definitely ELA! I have experience as a freelance middle school private tutor and a college application editor/tutor. I'd describe my tutoring style as very hands on. I come to sessions with lesson plans based on both the student's and teacher's educational goals, and create plans that are simultaneously engaging/fun, but also challenging.
I like to end sessions with creative writing exercises/word games. I find these help students with vocabulary, sentence variation, and structure. It also allows them to end sessions on a high note!
