My extensive history, both personal and professional, in education makes me the ideal candidate for anyone seeking help to improve their skills in English writing or reading. When I taught freshman English at Southern Connecticut State University, I worked closely with college freshman to help them transition from high school to working at the university level. Many of them were first generation college students coming from low-income homes. I, myself, came from a low-income home and know firsthand how intimidating navigating education can be. I can and will do the legwork it takes to understand not just how to comprehend subject but how to thrive within the system of education.
I worked with many students who were used to being overlooked and underrepresented in education. When I taught my course, I focused on personal voice. I taught my students the importance of their voice and place in academia. The key to getting your voice heard and respected in education is to understand the rules and expectations of your class. When you understand how to write what is expected, you have the skills to then express your unique and valuable perspective. Even if you don't think you have any writing or reading skills, I promise you're using those skills everyday, and I can help you understand how to use them at school.
