I am very happy with our experience so far with Varsity Tutors. They matched my daughter with reading specialist Mary and she is wonderful! My 10 year old daughter feels happy after her sessions and believes her tutor has already helped her.

Certified Tutor

I am a graduate of Liberty University where I earned my Master of Science in Criminal Justice: Forensic Psychology. I also have a Bachelor of Science in Psychology: Military Resilience. I am currently in my thirteenth year of service in the United States Air Force. I served ten years as an aerovac medic and am now a Unit Training Manager. Within these roles I was provided with ample opportunities to hone my tutoring experience. I was charged with developing course curriculum, instructing the courses, administering and evaluating assessments, and providing tutoring and mentorship for any trainees who may have struggled with the subject matter or who failed assessments. My goal then (and now) is to ensure each student leaves their session with renewed confidence and understanding of the material we covered. On the civilian side of the house, I spent every day after school with a handful of elementary school students helping them with their homework. I had the privilege of working with them for the entire school year. These tutoring sessions provided experience working with children with dyslexia and ADHD and allowed me opportunities to discover new ways of teaching the material, so each learning style was accommodated. I loved working with these children who progressed from failing every assignment to acing every assignment. Witnessing their excitement and pride at their individual successes is something I will always cherish. Establishing a solid foundation of education sets students up for success in future endeavors and this is why I am so passionate about tutoring. I would love to help them set out on the right foot. I tutor many subjects, but I am most passionate about Reading, Phonics, English, Psychology, and Criminology. Outside of academia I love to read, spend time with my family, play with my dogs, and enjoy nature as much as possible.
