After receiving my bachelor of science degree in psychology from the Ohio State University, I moved on to graduate study at the University of Georgia, where I earned my Ph.D. in biological psychology. This launched my career of teaching cognitive, biological, and other areas of psychology, at various colleges, over a span of 40 years. About a year ago I took up tutoring. Besides psychology, I also tutor a little biology and a lot of statistics. The latter might actually be my favorite, given my mathematical inclinations. As a teacher, I've never felt that my job was to make my students memo-rize facts and definitions but rather to instill ideas. As for tutoring, one thing I love about it is the back-and-forth between the student and me, and perhaps my greatest pleasure is when that lightbulb moment happens and the student suddenly grasps a concept that previously seemed elusive. Outside of academics my major interests are music, politics, and sports.

Graduate Degree: University of Georgia - Doctor of Science, Psychology
My number one hobby is reading, which is mostly of a scientific nature. A lot of the reading material consists of psychology and related areas of cognitive science, such as linguistics and neuroscience, but also includes biology, astrobiology, astronomy, and paleoanthropology. I’m currently writing, or trying to write, a book about evolutionary cognitive science but have yet to make my loosely related ideas coalesce into a coherent theory. When I’m not reading or tutoring, you might find me watching football on television, working out, or playing with my cat. The little guy isn’t much of a conversation partner, but at least he keeps me company.
