I am a PhD student and study Paleoceanography, a branch of Geology. I received my Bachelors degree in Earth Science with a concentration in Chemistry at Columbia University. Much of my time (outside of grad school) is spent thinking of how I can make higher education more accessible and attainable for aspiring college-bound learners, and volunteering at local science outreach events. I have roughly 2.5 years of experience with tutoring primary school and secondary school students in math and reading/writing. Over the past year, I worked as a Teaching Assistant in introductory undergraduate-level courses, assisting multiple students during office hours and holding review sessions to prepare for upcoming exams. As a first-generation low-income college student, I understand the significance of building a strong academic foundation. My experiences with developing strong study skills, fundamental test-taking skills, and making learning fun and exciting for myself and others have prompted me to tutor several secondary school subjects, and help students prepare for the ACT. I believe that developing confidence and preparedness are essential to navigating through familiar and unfamiliar topics.
