Lillian: Lincolnwood tutor
Certified Tutor
My passion for tutoring blossomed during my time getting my bachelor's in Biology at Ball State University. During this time, I worked as a peer tutor at the universities Learning Center. Through working with students in subjects like biology, chemistry, and math, I realized how fulfilling it is to help others succeed and make complex concepts accessible. I'm particularly passionate about identifying each student's unique learning style and adapting my approach to meet their needs. There's nothing more rewarding than seeing that "Aha!" moment when a student grasps a concept they've been struggling with.
After graduation, I spent a year and a half with AmeriCorps in Knoxville, TN, where I served as a Food Access Coordinator with the public housing authority. My role included creating educational resources on food science, collaborating with local organizations to host food distributions, and conducting research on food insecurity. This experience deepened my commitment to education and community outreach.
Currently, I am pursuing a Master's in Public Health (MPH) with a focus on Infectious Disease and Microbiology at the University of Pittsburgh, where I also work as a research assistant in an HIV/AIDS research clinic. This advanced training has further honed my problem-solving skills and ability to communicate complex topics clearly skills I bring to every tutoring session.
Outside of academics and work, I enjoy spending time with my cat, reading, playing video games, and exploring hobbies like bowling (my goal is to score over 200 one day!).
I look forward to helping students not only understand their coursework but also build the confidence to succeed.
