Certified Tutor
Equipped with a BS in Computer Science and a minor in Mathematics (with a focus on Relational Database Design) from Indiana University, I possess a strong foundation in technical and analytical skills. Further enriching my skillset, I earned a BS and MA in English/Creative Writing from the University of Central Oklahoma, fostering exceptional communication abilities. To stay at the forefront of technology, I recently completed a Python certification, demonstrating my commitment to continuous learning.
My passion for learning extends beyond academics. While pursuing my Computer Science degree, I honed my communication skills by tutoring fellow students for several semesters. Throughout my 17-year programming career, this passion translated into mentoring colleagues and collaborating on various projects. Outside of work, I've found joy in fostering a love of learning through leading VBS and quilting classes within my community.
I am qualified to teach Math, English, Creative Writing, and various programming technologies including but not limited to Java, Python, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. I enjoy teaching these subjects. However, programming is where my true passion lies. It's like solving intricate puzzles, where logic and creativity combine to craft solutions through code. The constant challenge keeps me engaged and fuels my desire to learn and teach these ever-evolving technologies. This ensures I deliver the most up-to-date knowledge to my students.
Currently, I'm bridging the gap between Java 5 and the latest versions (8-17) to prepare for the Oracle Certified Java Professional exams. This expands my existing 10 years of Java experience (Java 1.2 through 5). My thirst for knowledge extends beyond Java. I'm actively mastering new technologies through a Udemy.com bootcamp, which I've already leveraged to build my personal website.
I believe in the power of conversation in the classroom. Actively listening to my students and tailoring my explanations to their unique learning styles is key to unlocking their understanding. There's nothing more rewarding than seeing the "aha!" moment when a concept finally clicks.
