People learn differently and that's why I enjoy tutoring. No two students are alike. What may work for one, may not work for another.
After I retired from the United States Navy, I worked as a tutor and substitute teacher while I went to seminary. I have taught international students (including adults).
I have attended Purdue University, but graduated from Excelsior College with a Bachelor of Science in Liberal Studies. I graduated from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary with a Master of Divinity and a Master of Theology. I have a PhD from South Africa Theological Seminary researching and writing on strategies for succession planning through intentional leadership development.
I tutor Elementary Math, English, Reading, Middle School Math, English, Reading, Writing, Social Studies, Math, Reading, Writing, Productivity, Microsoft Excel, Religion, Theology, Social Sciences, Social Studies.
I enjoy tutoring most subjects. I am patient with my students and want them to understand the subject. I enjoy the core subjects because they are foundational. Reading is so important because when someone can read, they can learn anything. Writing is important because it allows someone to communicate ideas beyond those who can hear the person's voice. Math is important because it teaches logic. Math facts never change!
My approach to teaching is to begin with what the student knows. When introducing a new concept, explaining how the new concept is related to something the student already knows will help the student retain the information. I am supportive in tutoring. Failure is an option as long as we learn from our failure.
Outside of work and tutoring, I enjoy woodworking. Woodworking is my creative outlet. I enjoy the challenge of solving the problems that arise when making something.
