Certified Tutor

Learning is an ongoing process, and tutoring is the catalyst. In my opinion, tutoring and
mentoring are two sides of the same coin. I have been in academia and in business for
30+ years, working in Australia, New Zealand, Central Asia, Jamaica, China, Pakistan
and in other parts of the world. My Undergraduate degree is in Economics, Graduate
degree is in Hospitality Management, and my PhD is in Curricular and Instructional
Studies.
At present, I am teaching at the University of Akron's College of Business (Advance
Accreditation Council Business Schools Programs), and School of Communication.
These experiences have given me firsthand exposure to the emerging challenges and
molded my global approach in working with my students. I have learned that one of the
best methods to assess learning outcome (LO) is to first understand and identify the
needs of my students and focus on their strengths to motivate them. Students and
trainees (at all levels) have one common goal i.e., success in what they set out to do.
Two basic questions that guide my teaching pedagogy are, how relevant is the
knowledge of today for the graduates of tomorrow? And what do I need to do to work
with my students/mentees to create a trusting relationship?
I look forward to working with my students to strengthen their confidence in public
speaking, understanding marketing concepts and human resources practices, and
international business. The process is often long and requires patience - there are no
magic bullets.
