Mark: Santa Ana tutor

Certified Tutor

Mark's teaching journey began while he was getting his bachelor's degree in elementary education and computer science from Boston College. After landing his first job in the Boston public school system, he knew he was in it for the long haul! He has kept this first job for 23 years, even while he was earning his master's degree in teaching and math from Northeastern University. He is currently working in a new position in Natick, MA.

Mark's tutoring style is centered on empathy. When working with students, he asks himself: "If I know nothing about this, how would I present this so it could make sense to the weakest performing student?" He gathers as much information about his students' learning styles as possible in order to plan the best path forward. Spontaneity and humor are also tools in his teaching repertoire. "Humor is essential for helping people overcome obstacles, in learning and in life," he says.

While in college, Mark taught at a private learning center for children who struggle with learning differences. He also nurtured his love of film, music, and sports.

Self-Bio:
Graduated from Boston College with a double major in education and math/computer science. He then completed his masters degree at Northeastern University with a concentration in mathematics and teaching. He has been a teacher in the Boston Public Schools for the past 23 years in the area of mathematics. He has held positions such as department head and has worked with many types of students.
