I am a graduate of Seattle Pacific University with a degree in Biochemistry and Cellular and Molecular Biology. After graduation I was offered a job as the Chemistry Lab Coordinator at the school. Along with my previous experience as a teaching assistant this position allowed me to further my skills in helping students reach their academic goals. It was a unique opportunity to work with students and help guide them in writing lab reports, obtaining the needed calculation, expand their knowledge, and much more. I was also able to become an adjunct professor while working at SPU for the nursing biochemistry lab. I led several weekly labs that helped student engage with material, concepts, and new understandings. Students came to labs with a wide variety of previous knowledge, some were advanced and some were struggling. Learning how to give those that were ahead a challenge and scaffolding learning to help those behind has proven to be an invaluable skill that helps me teach students now. It also taught me to meet students where they are and build on that knowledge to achieve their goals.
