Certified Tutor
I have been teaching in my own classroom since I received my degree in Special Education and certification in Elementary Education in 2012 from Western Washington University. I have taught in K, 1st, 2nd, 4th and 5th grade classrooms. While I was going to school, I tutored for the Tree House Fostering Program in middle school math and English. After teaching for a few years, I went back and earned my masters degree in Curriculum Design and Instruction. This helped me develop a deeper understanding of using and adapting any curriculum, and creating my own curriculum both for classroom and for tutoring settings.
I am passionate about learning, and I love to pass on that excitement to my students. I believe that making learning interactive is critical, and that the more ways a student is exposed to an idea, the more likely it is that the new learning will stick.
I have tutored all Elementary subjects, and middle school Language Arts. Reading and writing are my favorite subjects to teach, because there are many personal ideas brought into these subjects, and within them, we can explore any idea that we wish to delve into.
I have a very active style of teaching and tutoring. I like students to keep both their bodies and their brains focused, and that means that learning can be done through movement, song, coloring and games. I do believe that mastery of a concept is critical as well, so I do include many formative assessments and more formal assessments and quizzes.
Outside of teaching, I have a little farm, and we raise animals and do a lot of gardening.

My big passion are horses. I got my first one when I was 4, and have been in love ever since! I have 4 of my own, I give riding lessons, and do pony parties. I used to compete in dressage, but I have ridden Western, English, jumping and bareback. I also love tennis, and have played since I was a child. I do many arts and crafts, such as needle point, pottery and jewelry making. I garden, and have a greenhouse on our little farm. We raise rabbits and chickens along with our pet cats, dogs and horses. I love to travel, and have been to many places in Europe, Canada and Mexico. I love to read mysteries, and if they are set in England, that makes them even better! I enjoy cooking and baking and discovering new recipes.
