My journey to become an educator started my first year in college. During the Summer, I worked at a Sports recreation camp for kids (8-16). I started as a "sports counselor," but quickly my responsibilities grew to working in "Arts and Crafts" and trip supervisor. This job taught me the importance of accountability and the importance of being trustworthy.
During my time as an undergraduate, I worked as a Substitute teacher. Here is where I was first introduced to "Lesson Planning." This job experience taught me how to effectively communicate with my colleagues and the importance of being organized.
After I graduated college, I went into Social work. I worked with Autistic, bipolar, and Schizophrenic adults. This experience eventually led me to teaching. Through recommendations I became a Special Education aide. During this time I worked with students varying from behavioral, emotional, and learning difficulties. My time as an aide taught me the importance of empathy, patience, and data.
After a few years, I decided I wanted to be a classroom teacher. I returned to school and attained my teaching certification. I began working as a 4th and 5th grade teacher. This was going to be a test of all the skill sets I accumulated through my journey. Over time, my skill sets grew, and I was constantly looking for ways/methods/strategies to strengthen my approach to learning.
A little over 5 years of teaching in the classroom, a close family member needed help and care. It was then I decided to leave the classroom, and focus on my family. During this time, I discovered online tutoring. Still able to utilize my skill sets and strategies when online learning became the new normal for a while.
For the last couple of years, I continue to teach online with students with a variety of needs. Working closely with parents, I enjoy my preparation prior to each session, and watching my students confidence in their skills grow through strategy, practice, and consistency.

I try to challenge myself no matter what I undertake. Writing is something I enjoy, and always looking for new ways to be creative. Being physical is also important to me. Exercise and running not only help relieve stress, but allow me to remain healthy. When it comes to sports, football, baseball, and golf top my list. Being part of a team helps build confidence and overall growth. Golf is something I fairly recently picked up, and as much as I enjoy playing it, my skills don't necessarily reflect that.
