I graduated with my bachelor's and master's degrees from Mississippi State University. My majors were Biology and general science education. I have an additional thirty-four postgraduate hours in chemistry at the University of Alabama. I like to learn, as well as teach. I have 37 years of teaching experience in grades 7-12. I am retired from full-time teaching but continue to tutor students. My experience in tutoring has been with all grade levels including courses such as, physical science, general science, biology, and chemistry. I teach an online class in physical science for area schools in my state. My favorite subject to tutor is physical science or chemistry because I taught these classes for most of my career. They hold a special interest to me. The concepts are sometimes abstract. However, I love showing students ways these concepts are part of their everyday life and not as complicated as they may seem.
Students who have an unclear understanding about the expectations or the material itself often get frustrated and tend to feel defeated. I strive to clarify the material so they feel confident they will do well. I like to talk to my students to know specifically where their need lies. Once that need is discovered, I want them to understand the details and how they connect to the broader concepts. The goal is to see the forest and the trees. I love the interaction with students and seeing signs of understanding. My hobbies include reading, swimming, playing with my dogs, traveling, and exploring nature.
