From the beginning of my academic career, I have always found that academics came easy. While my elementary school friends called me lucky, I had a general disinterest in school because there felt to be no substance, no challenge; it all felt fruitless. At a very young age, although my grades showed a sparkling student, within myself I had found that I had an extreme dislike for school. I almost felt as if I were a soccer player, with no opposing team, continuously scoring goals. And after so much time, one begins to wonder: what is the point?
Then, as I began to reach middle school, I was given a gift. I was given the opportunity to branch out into advanced courses and higher placement. While I pursued both English and mathematics in this advanced manner, I found an extreme passion for the STEM field. Not only were my wishes for a challenge answered, but I found a genuine love for the way the material pushes students to think in a problem-solving way. Mathematics and engineering became my favorite pastime, in and outside of the classroom.
At the beginning of my high school academics, I was assigned to read a novel called "I am Malala". These pages focus on telling us the story of women and girls in the middle east who were violently reprimanded for attempting to be women and have an education. And upon reading these atrocities, combined with my passion for the academics I had been so fortunate myself to study, my entire viewpoint on education shifted. I began to see the wonderful opportunities of education as a blessed gift. As high school advanced, and even further specialized courses such as Advanced Placement and Honors became available, I became a true praiser of academics and their affect on students. I was dazzled by the way that myself and my peers were able to strengthen our minds. I was ecstatic that I could make things come to life through robotics and programming and feel fulfilled after getting even non-perfect scores on my calculus exams.
Tutoring has been something that I have always wanted to involve myself in. I hope to bring the same passion and love for academics into my future students' lives. I believe that nobody should struggle in their academics as that can be a separator from the students mental growth and ability to perform. It is my goal to help as many students as I can find a better way to problem solve, approach academic issues, and find their own love for education.
