I am a graduate of Mars Hill University where I earned a Bachelor of Science degree in mathematics. My working career began as a computer programmer. When I started a family, I left that career. As my children became older, I obtained a teaching certificate for secondary education, taught literacy to adults, sold education solutions to public school systems, and taught high school and community college math. Along the way I earned a Masters of Art degree in Higher Education Administration from Appalachian State University and a PhD in Instructional Design from Keiser University. If I do not count my own children, I have worked with individuals from the ages of 13 to middle-aged adults. Even as a programmer, I was a teacher as I helped debug my colleague's programs. I believe that individuals learn best when they are actively involved and know that they are valued for their efforts. My favorite math topics are algebra and geometry. Those give the foundation needed to succeed in life and higher education. While I am certainly willing to explain concepts, I love to guide learners to think through their own solutions. When not teaching, I enjoy reading, gardening and painting. I never tire at the wonder of how math is connected to all my interests.
