I graduated from the State University of New York, College at Cortland with a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education. I received my Masters of Education in Elementary Education from Pan American University Edinburg. I have been a teacher with the Brownsville Independent School District for the past 44 years. I have taught fourth grade and have been a resource, content mastery and inclusion special education teacher during that time.

I firmly believe that all students can learn, though each may learn at a different rate. In order to be a successful learner, students and educators need to develop a relationship of mutual respect and trust. This concept has made my classroom a safe space for my students, where their improvements and effort will be celebrated and recognized for the achievements that they worked for.

Believing in themselves and focusing on improvement are the core values I want my students to internalize. Continuing to overcome difficulties, not giving up, will allow them to become positive, successful learners in their future school years as well as throughout their lives, which is the ultimate goal of a great educator.

I work with students in small groups or individually to remediate any difficulties they may be having. I try to present material in an engaging manner and I have found that making up stories around concepts helps them to internalize and remember information.

I most like working with students on basic reading skills and basic math skills with students in grades 1-5. I particularly enjoy reading books to students and using the content to help develop comprehension and vocabulary skills. These areas are important because reading and math are the foundations needed for anything that the student wants to do later in life.

Outside of education, I enjoy reading, going to new places and eating new foods. I love dogs, and I am owned by 5 rescue beagles who are incredibly spoiled.
