"Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn" ~Benjamin Franklin
I truly believe that everyone can learn. I also believe that every student truly wants to perform at the highest level possible. In order for students to learn, they must be actively involved in each lesson that is presented. I have been an educator for over 26 years, of which, 21 was as a Special Education Teacher.
I received my Bachelors of Science degree from Valdosta State University in the area of Special Education with an emphasis in Speech-Language Pathology. I also completed a Masters of Education in the area of Special Education and an Educational Specialist degree in Special Education.
I have worked with a variety of students with disabilities, including students with learning disabilities (dyslexia); emotional and behavior disorders; other health impairments due to medical diagnoses that affected their academic progress; and mildly intellectually disabled. I have taught math, social studies, English-Language Arts, and reading. I am passionate about helping all students exceed their potential and look forward to being able to work with students as a tutor. I believe in focusing on a student's strengths and building on them.
Reading is my passion! I love to teach reading and introduce students to the wonderful worlds that are shared through the written word. I have been trained in several specialized reading intervention programs. I feel that reading is the most important content area because you must use reading in all other subjects! Improving reading will also improve a student's writing ability, in addition to all other academic areas. As Dr. Seuss stated, "The more things you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you will go!"

I read over three hundred books last year and my favorite genres are fantasy, dystopian, romance, and mysteries. I also enjoy traveling and finding out the history of each location that I visit. I am a foodie with a gigantic sweet tooth! Trying out new restaurants on my travels is very important to me. Why eat at a restaurant that you can visit anytime when you are at home? Right? I am also interested in antiques and refinishing furniture.
