I am very happy with our experience so far with Varsity Tutors. They matched my daughter with reading specialist Mary and she is wonderful! My 10 year old daughter feels happy after her sessions and believes her tutor has already helped her.

Ashling

Certified Tutor

I have a bachelor's degree from Boston University in Neuroscience with a minor in Engineering Science and a master's degree in Biomedical Engineering from the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill and North Carolina State University. During my studies and time in two research labs, I have come to know a wide variety of topics, including not only neuroscience and biology, but also speech science, biomechanics, programming, and signal processing.
I have been tutoring fellow students since high school, when I would help out with English and Chemistry homework for various honor societies.
As an undergrad, I instructed high school students and learners of all ages in neuroscience basics. I also worked as an LA (aka TA) for a class on applying neuroscience concepts and models in MATLAB. In graduate school, I continued to teach learners of all ages, at that time about my biomechanics lab and the research we did there. I also gave high schoolers a more in-depth coverage of neurorehabilitation at UNC Splash.
For me, the most satisfying part of tutoring is finding a way to approach a problem or concept that makes it engaging and approachable for my student. That way I get to be there for the best part of the learning process - your 'aha!' moment.
