I am a graduate of the University of St. Andrews in the United Kingdom, where I received my Bachelor of Arts in English Literature. Since graduating, I have also earned my Masters in Creative Writing and Composition, and my PhD from the University of York in England. My doctoral research focuses on Ann Radcliffe, an English novelist and poet who lived during the eighteenth century, and inspired the works of Jane Austen - one of my favorite authors! Since completing my PhD, I have taught at both the school and university levels. For the past two years, I taught Language Arts to fourth and fifth grade students.
I am a passionate educator in the field of English Literature, language, and composition. Most importantly, I want to share this passion with my students. I am an educator who believes in my students. When they work with me, I strive to create a safe, open space where they can develop and strengthen their reading, writing, and comprehension skills at their own pace and in their own unique way. I am qualified to tutor elementary, middle school, high school, and university level reading and composition.
In my experience, my favorite part of teaching English has been working with students to strengthen their writing skills, whether this is through learning to compose a five-paragraph essay, or how to write a strong thesis statement. No matter the age, the ability to express yourself clearly and effectively is an essential one in any walk of life, and this will be my main goal when working with students. As Professor Dumbledore tells us in "Harry Potter" -- one of my favorite series of books -- "words are one of our most inexhaustible sources of magic." My goal in tutoring sessions is to help my students harness this unique magic, and to use it wisely!
When I am not tutoring, I spend my time exploring book stories in search of my next reading adventure, cooking new recipes, and looking after my dog, Teddy.

I am a lover of travel, cooking, and reading as many new books as I can get my hands on. Some of my favorite authors are Jane Austen, Charlotte Bronte, Shirley Jackson, Angela Carter, and Stella Gibbons. I am also an avid pet lover - I have a cat named Ferdinand and an old black lab named Teddy! My favorite place to travel is the United Kingdom, where I studied abroad for both my undergraduate and postgraduate degrees. When I go back to visit, my favorite things to do are to see my friends who live there, and to travel around the country visiting historical sites which have served as settings for my favorite books, or places where my favorite authors have lived. So far, one of my favorite places to visit has been Jane Austen's house where she lived and worked. You can even see the little table in the sitting room where she wrote "Pride and Prejudice!"
