Dr. Anne-Marie: Lemont tutor
Certified Tutor
I am an independent learning consultant with undergraduate and graduate online and in-person teaching, course curriculum development, research, and presentations. I provide academic direction, instruction, editing, and proofreading support for subjects including writing and editing dissertations, doctoral projects, capstones, and master's theses; technical writing; digital marketing; and basic computer skills. Additionally, I have more than 25 years in government and corporate training arenas and online learning.
My teaching philosophy is grounded in and built around my experiences as a student. I learned from both the good and bad teachers I had. I make a concerted effort to remember and implement the good techniques and qualities and avoid the bad techniques and qualities that hinder or block understanding, competency, and success. I recognize everyone learns and demonstrates what they have learned differently, and I consciously implement different teaching modalities to accommodate learning styles and evaluation. I look for learning problems students may be having, and work with them to overcome the problems so that they succeed. I recognize that age, culture, and life conditions (work, family, economics, environment) also influence how students learn. I consciously look for those influences and will work with students so that these influences do not become a barrier to students' learning experiences and successes. I also recognize that technology is a part of the learning experience and include it to facilitate access to course content, classmates (to support peer learning), and myself. I believe that teaching is not a 9 am-5 pm job, and I meet with students before or after classes, or online to provide the direction or support they need. My focus and goal are student success, and I believe this success will influence the rest of their days.
