I truly believe that every student can be successful when given the correct tools and support. I have grown up with a sister with special needs. Have been in several different school systems, due to my family moving around. I have learned what methods work and what do not in order to reach a variety of needs in students. I have had to learn what type of learning I am, as I am also a student who is going for my Master's in Special Education Research. I started the program at George Mason University, but had too relocate and am looking to continue that at a local college. I have been teaching special education for over 12 years. I started out in the elementary level, teaching all subjects in an inclusive classroom. I then taught middle school. During that time I became the reading specialist for the school. This involved getting trained in a majority of reading programs that are used in VA public schools. Most recently I relocated to Bealeton, VA and am teaching self-contained, inclusion and reading programs for students in 2nd through 5th grade. I also teach Extended School Year, to help my students continue to be successful throughout the summer. I have been a tutor for about 7 years, working with a range of abilities and ages. My tutoring includes students in inclusive classrooms, students who only needed assistance with reading, and/or students who are in self-contained and need assistance in both life skills and academics. I have a lot of experience tutoring all subjects at all levels; including phonics skills for the younger learners. I am knowledgeable in designing activities, lessons, and curriculums tailored to each student. I find joy in teaching, tutoring, and volunteering. I believe that it takes teachers, student(s), and families to help a student be successful. I find it very important to communicate and collaborate with the family and the student to understand what they need.

Family is the most important thing to me. Every year we go on a big family vacation, and will find any reason to have a cook out together. I have a 14 year old son, and a bordoodle named Loki. I am a huge fan of Disney World. You may see me sporting a clothing article or two that is Disney inspired. I love to read!! I always have a book or my Kindle with me. I enjoy the outdoors: camping, hiking, kayaking, and/or reading by the water. I love to travel, see new places, and try new things. My newest adventure is volunteering on cruises to help families with special need children have an amazing vacation. Bonus: I get to travel to places I have not been too. I love history, and learning new things. I am loving the small town of Bealeton because it is close to my family (younger brother, older sister, and parents). It also helps that the Moo Thru is in Bealeton - best ice cream in my opinion. Fun Fact: I was named after Spider-Man's girlfriend (from the comic books).
